It gives a small amount of gain on the higher bands but for optimum performance with solid state rigs you must use an ATU. Most transceiver internal ATUs will match these antennas but for optimum performance we recommend an external tuner such as those from MFJ. The full size G5RV can be used on 160m by strapping the feeder ends together and feeding with a single wire from the ATU
